Kids Are Stressed Too!
There is much in the news today of how adults are under increased pressure and stress due to the economy, fast-changing technology, and the demands of society. Kids feel stress, too, especially those in the middle grades.
Ten- to fifteen-year-olds experience the stress of transitioning between childhood and young adulthood. Worries about appearance, school work, friendships, family issues, and generalized fears literally keep them awake at night. Add to this transitions from one grade to another and from middle school to high school, and it is easy to see why kids this age need extra support from the adults around them.
Help kids handle stress by
• Being there for them. Getting support from someone lightens the burden.
• Laughing with them. Laughing releases tension. Middle school kids are funny! And don't forget to laugh at yourself.
• Exercising with them. Walking, bicycling, dancing—even doing household chores—gets rid of some of the body's pent-up stress.
Relaxing with them. Yes, we are busy, and our kids are, too, but taking little breaks here and there can give everyone a new
