I would like to welcome you to the North Star School District’s web portal and thank you for your interest in our district. The North Star School District is located in northern Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Our rural district is 101 square miles and is nestled in the Laurel Highlands between Johnstown and Somerset. The district currently has three schools, an elementary, middle, and high school, serving a student population of roughly 1,100 students.     

            The North Star School District is truly a Triple A school. We pride ourselves for our excellence in Academics, Athletics, and the Arts. Over the last few years, the district has invested heavily in our teachers, our curriculum, and our technology. This academic commitment has provided our students with access to the most current curriculum aligned to the state standards. It has also afforded them an opportunity to receive highly engaging instruction that utilizes research-driven instructional practices which incorporate technology in the classroom. As a result of these efforts, the district and all three of its buildings have achieved AYP.

            Athletically, the North Star School District fields twelve varsity sports. During the 2010 – 2011 school year, the district was home to four District 5 champions and one state champion. In addition to our outstanding athletic programs, the district also offers a variety of exceptional student organizations on the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. These groups help to foster in our students a sense of pride in self, school, and community.

            As for the arts, the North Star School District is second to none.  All students are encouraged to display their art work and technology projects at district and county art shows. For those with more musical interests, the music department produces various choral and band concerts throughout the school year and works hard to prepare our students for district and state choral and band competitions. On a much larger scale, the talents of the entire district are showcased in our spring musical. Last year, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying was presented and drew rave reviews from all who attended.        

            As you can see, our district is concerned with developing well-rounded students who can compete on a global level academically and are socially, emotionally, and culturally prepared to enter the 21^st Century workforce. Thank you for visiting the North Star School District portal.
